This is a simple technique to sense the dark or light as our wish. and we can trigger the main circuit without manual control.

in this circuit the LDR is used to sense the light intensity. Based on the intensity its resistance will vary. due to that the frequency of the output pulse from the at pin 3 also vary. after the particular voltage range the transistor will trigger the relay.
